(Instant Coffee)
Haiku, inspired by instant coffee:
Instant coffee blues
Soluble yet watery
Awful morning breath
Today was the first day of teaching. Words can't express how incredible today was. As the students have been so short-changed for the last four weeks, they were overjoyed to hear that I'll be their teacher until the end of the term! The second class actually applauded when Donna and I walked in! Donna, is my lovely Australian co-teacher this week. Having three semesters of teaching in China under her belt, she's been sent to help me get used to the program and give extra attention to these poor students.

I'm taken aback by how respectful and enthusiastic the students are! I showed a series of photos and gave a short introduction about myself and they were so excited to see pictures of my family and friends. It's so fun to team-teach with Donna. We work very well together and play off of each other during lessons. It's also great for the students to hear our different accents and we have them point out the differences often. Dear Canadian friends... I hate to admit it, but we really do sound like we're saying "oot and aboot."
Want something to be jealous of? Yesterday (Sunday), I went with a few other teachers to get massages in town. Not only were they neck, arm and foot, but they were an hour and only $10 Canadian!! Feeling like jelly afterwards, we hobbled over to a wonderful Chinese meal of more food than we could bear. How much? $3 each!! Delicious noodle lunch today? less than $1. It's absurdly cheap here, and I'm taking full advantage of it!
Of course, sometimes it does get stormy in paradise. Yesterday I got so lost that I had to call the big boss (his number was the only one I could find) and ask him to direct a tuk-tuk driver to my hotel. Also the weather here is absolutely horrible! It's soooo cold (remember, I haven't felt a proper Canadian winter in almost 2 years) and windy and dark. But I can't complain when I've got a deal this sweet!
On the agenda for tomorrow? I'm teaching how to give oral presentations because my students will be delivering their own in a month's time. Donna and I will be presenting all about YOGA! I'll be teaching my students Tree Pose, step by step! I'm sure hilarity will ensue.
